What are the "Private Fire Protection"/"Public Fire Protection" charges on my bill?
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) dictates that we charge Public Fire Protection(PFP) fees for the provision of public fire hydrants and the necessary water pressure for local fire departments to utilize. Additional information can be found on the PSC's website.
Why was my bill unusually high this month?
Monthly water usage varies due to seasonal and household factors, but a good estimate is around 1,500 gallons per person each month. Leaking toilets are often the cause of unexpectedly high water bills, usually due to a worn-out flushing mechanism in the tank.
What are the flags/painted markings in my yard for?
When Harrison Utilities receives a Digger's Hotline ticket, staff mark the services in the specified area. Blue flags/markings indicate water, green flags/markings indicate sanitary sewer, and clear flags mean no Harrison Utilities in the area. For color code details, visit the Diggers Hotline Color Code Chart.
Do we get a break on our bill when filling our swimming pool?
There is no "water allowance" for filling swimming pools because Harrison Utilities buys water from the City of Appleton and the rates are controlled by the PSC.
However, customers receive a "sewer allowance" from mid-April to mid-October because water usage for outdoor activities like pools and sprinklers increases but doesn't go into the sewer system.
