The Village of Harrison contracts with Accurate Assessor for all assessment needs.
Maintenance Year
During a maintenance year, the assessor reviews properties that have changed during the previous year and assigns new values as of January 1st of the current year. Property owners are notified by mail if their assessed value changes, usually after the assessment roll is updated in late spring, though some may receive notices earlier.
Revaluation Year
Information and educational materials will be shared in the Village Newsletter and the assessor's website. In a revaluation year, the assessor reviews all village properties and assigns new values based on market value. Since revaluating the entire community is costly and time-intensive, it’s typically done only when assessed values no longer meet state requirements.
Open Book
After property assessments are updated, they’re made public during the 2-week Open Book period. During this time, property owners can review the assessment roll at the Harrison Village Hall or online via the Accurate Assessor's website.
Owners can request an Open Book session—held in person or by phone—to discuss their property's value with the assessor. Corrections can be made if errors are found. Click here to request a session.
The Open Book period occurs two weeks before the Board of Review meeting, where assessments are finalized. Once certified, property values can’t be contested unless the property has changed.
Board of Review
If a property owner disagrees with their valuation and can't resolve it during Open Book, they can file an objection form with the village clerk to request a hearing with the Board of Review (BOR). The BOR reviews objections and certifies the assessment roll. The objection form must be filed at least 48 hours before the first BOR meeting unless this rule is waived.
Educational materials on property assessments, BOR procedures, and filing objections are available during Open Book.
